Magnetic: A Year On – and the mission continues

Connecting Capability With Purpose
When I rejoined Talentia last August, the group needed a robust permanent recruitment strategy – and how we went about it would be the first step in what’s become quite a journey.
Two things had become clear to me after years of helping people progress their careers and supporting great businesses to find the right talent.
Connection.
Regardless of the role or level, people want clarity and detail – to understand the market, the company, the role, and the person behind it. Recruitment done well with transparency, should spark a real connection.
Attraction.
Candidates and hiring managers alike want to feel understood and heard. They want to trust that someone has their best interests at heart – whether it’s finding their next opportunity or the person who will make the difference in their team, and feeling like the recruiter is listening, acting on your interests, and ensuring an opportunity truly is attractive in every sense.
That’s where Magnetic began – a belief that the right people in the right jobs could play a stronger role in New Zealand’s growth story, while maintaining a desire to do it differently, and unique to us.
After testing many models and approaches, we wanted to create something that combined purpose with performance, and a place where professional and technical talent could entrust us with their next step. Through the brilliant work of Mark Easterbrook and Nick Riley (PDINZ), Magnetic was launched three months later.
Despite entering a very challenged market, we’ve supported companies across manufacturing, supply chain, infrastructure, engineering and technology to find the people who move industries forward – proving that when recruitment is done with intent, aligning capability and purpose, it can have real impact on productivity, innovation, and resilience across business, and the economy.
A year on, the job’s far from done.
There’s more to build, many more people to connect with, and more challenges we will work to overcome. Our focus now is on expanding Magnetic’s reach, deepening partnerships, and continuing to support New Zealand’s industries as they adapt to future demands, grow, and compete on a global stage.
This next phase isn’t about scaling for the sake of it. We want to be a genuine force for talent, creating measurable impact where it matters most. And I guess, this is exactly what drives us.
More on that soon.
For now, thank you to everyone who’s supported, enabled, and embraced the Magnetic brand. We remain relentlessly optimistic – about the market, about what’s ahead, and about the difference great people can make to the lives of all New Zealanders.
